New old stock Dupont collectible cutter from 2007. Dupont is stopping off in New York with its new Limited Edition line, New York 5the Avenue.
It pays homage to the legendary city of New York as well as to the great French interior designers who decorated the private apartements and offices of the New York elite on the Upper Eeast Side and 5the Avenue during the Thirties and Forties. Breaking away from Art Deco, the French designers created a sophisticated world, bleding sexteenth century Hispanic baroque, eighteenth century Frenc classicism and the surrealism of the time. Dupont has pushed the limits of its expertise in lacquer and gold to create a beautifully rich decorative scheme.
Tracery in drap and chocolate lacquer, delicately juxtaposed, is enriched by many fine guilloch arabesques. Framing and enhancing this sumptuous decor, bronze grilles finished in gold, moulded and chased by hand like a piece of wrought ironwork, are laid one by one on each lighter and pen. The globe they form is a reference to the globe held by the statue of Atlas at the foot of the Rockefeller Center on 5th Avenue. Each lighter required 120 hours and each pen required 160 hours of work, and fifty of their best craftsmen were needed to create these unique pieces. Their talent, present at every stage in the creation of this collection, has turne these products into true works of art.
